Golden Temple – HarMandir, Punjab – A Timeless Beauty

On the fifth day, my inclination grew towards the spiritual side of the state. When we talk about Punjab, the first thing that comes to our mind is the Golden temple in Amritsar. The temple has enticing features, which are truly calling. Before I planned my trip to Punjab, I had decided to visit the Golden temple once for sure. As the morning had already arrived, I was very much excited. I went to visit the Golden temple early in the morning.

The Golden temple is also known as Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib and due its significance in the Sikh culture, every Punjabi or a Sikh plans a visit to the glorious Gurudwara. The speechless beauty of the temple has left many visitors spellbound. Many people from all over the world visit the Golden temple to seek the blessings from the God.

The major feature of the temple, which attracts in the first sight itself, is its location. It is situated amidst a pool which is said to be containing magical water that heals pains and cures several diseases. There are a total of four entrances to the temple, which have different names of reference. There is the Guru’s bridge, which is the connecting bridge to the temple. The entire temple is a two-storey marble structure coated with gold in all the sides. Mostly the upper floor of the temple is gold plated and the lower half of the temple is built with marbles and adorned with panoramic motifs. The architecture of the temple resembles to Hindu and Muslim forms.

The evening time in the temple is much peaceful and heart touching. You would listen to several hymns and prayers and the holiest book of the Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib is read here with voices aloud. I was lucky enough to enjoy the ‘Langar’ in the Golden temple which is the meal prepared every day by the temple authorities, devotees and worshippers. The meal is free of cost and is availed by a large number of people throughout the city of Amritsar. The principles of equalitarianism and unity are taught here, which is said to change the lives of the people from every sphere.

I am very much fond of nature and its resources. I love animals as much as I love the flora and lush-green forests. When I am tired and sick of my work life, it’s only nature and wildlife that gives me true pleasure and returns back the spirit into my life. Whenever I get some free time, I make sure to utilize each and every minute of it doing some kind of research on wildlife. Eventually, India is a place rich with loads of natural resources. Bhatinda is one of the few Indian states that are known for the best wild life sanctuaries and national parks.

Jallianwala Bagh, Punjab – A Remembrance of Brutal Killing and Indian History

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear about Jallianwala Bagh? Without much time one can answer that brutal killing and ruthlessness of the British government, which was laid over to the innocent Indians.

I decided to spend the second day of my stay in Amritsar, Punjab by visiting the Jallianwala Bagh. I was aware of the mishap that happened here long time back during the British rule. I had studied about the massacre in my history book, which mentioned the brutalities of the rulers. The history of the place is very brutal and a sort of incident the Indian history can never forget. The symbol of brutalities by the British government can still be seen on the walls of the Jallianwala Bagh where the signs of the gun shots are found. The structures and bullet marks on the marks took me back to the old centuries when the incident might have happened actually.

The park is now open for the visitors and people can get inside the park by paying a nominal fee. The massacre took place on April 19, 1919 when people were called for a peaceful meeting in the park. They were then blocked from all four sides and brutal firing of bullets continued for long minutes. The innocent people could not escape the high walls of the park and finally they were massacred to death. The crowd consisted of women and children who were out for a peaceful meeting. It is said that the firing was made on the Indians with the order of General Edward Dyer. He even asked his men to close the exit doors so that the people may not escape.

At the entrance of the park, I saw a tablet that scripted the details about the massacre. I was able to recall the incidents that I had once read in my history book during my school days. An eternal flame is lighted in the park to commemorate those freedom fighters who struggled hard and were succumbed to death by the rigid British government. One visit to the park will definitely make you a lot more idealistic and practical in dealing with different hardships in life. I felt the same!

My Train Travel – Journey from Jaisalmer to Punjab via Delhi

For me traveling is indispensable. And so I wish to travel whenever I am not working. My days are blissful as I am doing well with my work. I stuck up with an idea of visiting Punjab, which is known to be the place for happy-go-lucky people. I traveled to Delhi from Jaisalmer via train and then took up another train from Delhi to Chandigarh. It was a journey full of cheerful and glorious tales. As I started from my house, I moved to the Jaisalmer station and the JSM Howrah Superfast Express started from Jaisalmer station at 12:45 in the midnight. I settled myself in my assigned compartment and slept in the consecutive minutes. The morning was blissful and energetic. I had my breakfast in the train and the train dropped me at Delhi station at 2:45 p.m. in the afternoon.

As soon as I reached Delhi, I went straight to the Hotel 3B Houses as I had already planned for it. I had the next train from Delhi to Chandigarh in the evening. So I decided to take a rest for 4 hours in the hotel. I unpacked my bags in the hotel and booked a room for half of the day. The hotel is located at a distance of just 3 kilometers from the railway station and it was quite easy for me to locate the hotel as it is close to the Karol Bagh. The rooms of the hotel had all the features one would need for a perfect relaxation. They were well-furnished with adequate supply of toiletries and other necessities available. The rooms even had internet so I exchanged text messages with my friends and dropped a few emails.

An Unforgotten Visit to the Bhojpur Temple Bhopal

Bhojpur temple Bhopal also known as Bhojeshwar temple was our final destination during that trip. We learnt that it was founded by a king of Paramara Dynasty called Dhar Raja Bhoj in 11th century to thank the Almighty Lord Shiva after his disease was cured. After knowing the interesting history behind the temple on the internet I could not stop myself to catch the train to Bhopal and have some glimpses of the temple. It was a sudden plan because after a month I was supposed to join my designer team for an assignment and it might take long time to finish off and I was quiet impatient to wait further.

The train being late for four hours, it was already five in the evening and it was useless to visit Bhojpur as the check in the hotel was still a pending job and so that day it was enough to rest to start afresh in the next morning. After seeing the mesmerizing sunrise, I took a long walk with a local guide who was just a 16 year old girl working in a shop next to my hotel. As we had reached the temple, I could see a majority of devotees who were standing in a queue with their respective donations to Lord Shiva. When I had asked the girl about the reason behind that gathering I came to know that it was the month of ‘shravan’ and people who had kept fast for the Lord come to worship over there. I could feel the freshness, the joy of worshipping and could see the people faith on The Shiva. I could hear the soothing sound of the shell played by the ‘pandit’, and the pigeon picking grains from the sacred plains of the temple. When I reached near the main temple I saw its architectural construction which showed the craftsmanship of the people of 11th century. The doorframe was made of stone blocks which had the altitude of ten meters and the width of five meters approximately which were richly carved.

I would appreciate the rare combination of religion sculpture and architecture of the Bhojpur temple Bhopal which was creation of the Raja Bhoj who was also an engineer, a great warrior, an administrator and a man with an incomparable vision. Truly, I was fortunate enough to be borne and brought up in India where heritages gifted by so many legendaries exist.

DB Mall, Bhopal : My recent MP trip concluded on a well-deserved note that the place is full of vibrancy and undying energy. The best example to cite is the DB Mall Bhopal, which is a livewire in itself. Located in the heart of the city, is easily reachable via all modes of transport. The mall is on its toes with a number of stores and a lavish food court.
