Ramakrishna Mission Ashram – A Soothing Place for Visitors

While moving down hill, we made our next visit to the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram of Visakhapatnam, which is located at a two minute walk from the RK beach, sited within the lush greenery. The Ashram is a beautiful structure in light pink color.

The Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, also known as Ramakrishna Mission, was constructed in the year 1938 on the Ramakrishna Beach. The ashram offers a peaceful, soothing and natural environment to the visitors. However, it is also renowned for offering the marvelous view of the raising sun. This Mission was established with the motive of providing educational, medical and cultural facilities. The Ashram is also active in providing relief and to rehabilitate the needy.

On entering the premises, a board read the facilities of the ashram. We were pleased to know that it housed a library, a school, a dispensary, and an exhibition hall which has work to display the life of Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Holy Mother. The building is surrounded by beautiful garden. This place welcomes the tourists to attend its various activities of meditation and reincarnation, and many tourists were attending and participating in those activities. The Mission was indeed performing the noble task.

We entered inside the Ashram and were welcomed with a tranquil prayer hall that had decor of clear marble flooring and comforting lighting. In the center of the hall was installed an idol of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. There were placed idols of Sharada Maa and Vivekananda also. This prayer hall is designed to conduct regular prayers as well as meditation. Then there was a way where hall was opened to public for meditation.

Get Back Into The Time At The Visakha Museum

It was my third day in Visakhapatnam, and I was feeling quite refresh after a deep slumber. But, I did have an idea about the place which I was about to visit. Today the Visakha Museum was on my list, and that’s the reason why the historian inside me was quite excited about it. With that excitement in my mind, I took a quick shower and had my breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant.

Since my childhood, I have quite fond of historical monuments, artifacts, and other such thing that take me to the ancient world. For this reason, I left my hotel room as soon as possible to avoid too much of crowd which may show up as the day would progress. Before leaving the hotel, I had garnered some info regarding how to reach the Visakha Museum.

It is good to know that the museum is on the beach road itself. However, the distance was certainly not a walk-able one. Yes, from Rushikonda the museum was about 13 Kms. For this reason, I was left with the option of hiring either a cab or an auto rickshaw. I went with the former one, i.e. a cab. It took more or less 10 minutes to reach the spot.

Well, located at Waltair, which in on the beach road, this museum was nothing like a new building. The ceramic floor and renovated walls were not that bad. In fact, the Visakha museum is an old building which was owned by numerous Dutch families. This is the reason why the locals often refer to the museum as “Dutch Bungalow”. The old building was occupied by them till the end of 70s.

As I went inside the museum, the ancient armory, coins, crockery, jewelry, portraits, and maps really took me back into the time. In addition, the letters and diaries were quite intriguing for me. Apart from them, I also came across lots of manuscripts, scrapbooks, as well as models related to planes, submarines, and warships. Overall, the museum will not leave you dissatisfied. After spending like 2hours inside, I stepped out, hired a cab, and went back to the hotel with tons of memories in my mind.

ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium Visakhapatnam : I went to see what all the hype was about and found it to be uninteresting. It was like all other cricket stadiums. It isn’t something I would recommend viewing when on holiday. There are a lot of other wonderful places in Visakhapatnam to view other than this stadium. I went in and came out in 5 minutes.

On the first day of my trip of Visakhapatnam, I decided to stay in the hotel room and spend the evening at the beach just in front of it. On the 2nd day, my mind and body were completely in sync and absolutely revived. Being a lover of nature and wildlife, I chose Indira Gandhi Zoological Park as my first spot. It is located amidst the dense Kambalakonda Reserve Forest. Since the distance between Rushikonda, where the resort is located, and the zoo is approx 9 Kms, so I decided to hire a cab.

Fortunately, the resort arranged me a cab, and I was ready to head towards my first destination in Visakhapatnam. The cab drove quickly through the NH 5, and within 15 minutes I was there. As a matter of fact, the zoo is just 4 kms far from the railway station. In addition, one can also catch a bus (APSRTC) from the RTC Complex. Well, this information was provided to me by the driver of the cab.

Considering the popularity of the zoological park, I was expecting good amount of tourists at the spot. Well, my expectation proved right, and the crowd was certainly overwhelming. After purchasing an entry ticket, which was only of 10 INR, I stepped inside the zoo. From the informative signposts placed at the entry of the zoo, I came to know few things about it.

It was the year 1977 when Indira Gandhi Zoological Park was opened, by Indira Gandhi herself. Secondly, it is spread across an area of 625 acres, or 253 hectares. Somewhere it was also mentioned that to see the entire zoo, one would have to walk up to 4 kms. Well, so I was prepared too. I carried a bottle of water and few snacks to power me up in case I feel tired.

As I marched into the zoological park, my camera captured numerous animals, birds, and creatures, such as the Indian Tiger, Lions, Bennet, Panthers, Himalayan Black Bear, Giant Squirrel, Baboons, Peafowl, Golden Pheasant, Red Jungle Owl, and Doves. It took me about 3 hours to cover the entire zoo and to be quite frank I was quite pleased and happy in the end. Finally, I hired a cab and went straight to my hotel.

Rishikonda Beach Visakhapatnam : The calmness and the sense of peace you get at this beach is beyond words. Not to many people crowding and littering around makes the beach a wonderful place to relax at. It isn’t safe to venture into the sea beyond a certain point because the currents are strong but the beach patrol tries its best to keep the people safe and sound.

Jaisalmer to Visakhapatnam – Beginning of An Enthralling and Fun Filled Voyage!

Being a person from a place which is known for its tourism, travelling and exploring new places have always been in my blood. With the passion to explore different parts of India, I decided to roam across the city of Visakhapatnam, which is one of the major towns in Andhra Pradesh.

Jaisalmer is the place where I belong, and which also happens to be my current city. Rajasthan is well known for its vivid colors and rich traditions. So, planning a trip to Visakhapatnam was backed by the curiosity to discover the unknown elements of Southern India, which mainly includes its attires and cuisines.

After deciding to make Visakhapatnam as my next holiday destination, I simply hopped on to the chair of my desktop and browsed Visakhapatnam flight hotel deal. Well, since I love travelling in trains, so the long distance journey was never an issue for me. So I went ahead with the train option. To reach my destination, I had to book tickets in two trains, which were- JSM JU Express (14809), which is a connecting train between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.

The next connecting train was BGKT VSKP Express, between Jodhpur and Visakhapatnam. Being a woman, I preferred travelling in 3AC, as it made me feel safer and more comfortable. After booking the tickets, now it was the time to do some shopping. Fortunately, I didn’t have to buy any kind of different clothes because both Jaisalmer and Visakhapatnam feature hot weather. So, I simply purchased some vital items.

Since the train to Jodhpur was at 06:15 in the morning, so I woke up quite early that day. After packing my stuffs and getting everything ready, I hopped inside the cab which I booked a day ago. I was so thrilled that it didn’t feel to me how the 6 hours passed and I was at the Jodhpur junction. The train arrived at the right time, which was 12:15 PM.

My next train was at 2:30 PM, and this was a long journey indeed. Nevertheless, I carried some good books to read, and the next 42 hours passed in a jiffy. The journey was comfortable and the train was just an hour late. So, finally on the 3rd day, I was at Visakhapatnam.

Muzhappilangad Driving Beach, Kannur – The Longest Drive-In Beach in India

After visiting a handful of places that portrayed the cultural as well as natural heritage of Kerala the last destination that we visited in the “God’s own country” was the Muzhappilangad Driving Beach.

Muzhappilangad Beach

Stretched over 4 kilometres of seashore this famous drive-in beach of Kerala runs parallel to the national highway 66 that connects Kannur and Thalassery. Although Goa is known for the beauty of its beaches the Muzhappilangad beach stands tall as even Goa doesn’t possess any drive – in beach.

As we reached the beautiful beach the cold sea breeze touched our face which was an amazing and soothing experience. Tourists in large numbers had gathered at this beach. Due to the growing demand of tourism infrastructure in this region it is a issue of great concern to keep the tourism activities at this beautiful beach under the carrying capacity of the site, else the very commodity that is traded i.e. the scenic vistas will be depleted may be irreversibly.

The view of the sunset from this beach is something beyond words. I immediately grabbed my camera and attempted to get that perfect shot of the setting sun with the orange skies and golden beams of the sun. It was totally a mesmerising scene.

The beach festival organized on this beach in the month of April is one of the most eminent tourist attractions of the state of Kerala.  Especially youth from all parts of the globe gather here to participate in various car and bike stunts on the heavenly beaches of Muzhappilangad. Another attraction in the vicinity of this beach is a private island, which can be walked down during low tide as it is located just at a distance of 100 metres from the beach.

The beautiful settings involving tall coconut trees and the black rocks that border the beach as well as act as a natural defence of the land against the strong currents of the sea offer the perfect environs to this drive – in beach of Kerala. Hence, my day ended and I gathered many memories of this amazing trip along with me as we headed back home.
