The Wild Adventure Into the Kutumsar Caves Of Chhattisgarh

Yes! The one stop I have been eagerly awaiting in this trip. A ride into the Mother Nature’s natural lap! Being in the wild and in my own solitude is bliss I cannot explain any further. It is hearsay that Kutumsar is the largest natural cave in the World; while some even claim that it is the largest in Asia and the seventh largest in the ‘World’. Regardless of these strange sayings, I can assure you that your visit to Kutumsar caves will be an unforgettable and most thrilling trip ever.

The Kutumsar caves are about forty kilometers away from Raipur in the town of Jagdalpur. One thing to remember is that these caves are filled to the brim with water during the monsoon season: June to August and are closed for visit.

You will need to pay a small fee to approach these caves too as an entry fee and for the guide who will take you through the treacherous routes. Carry a couple of lamps or torches with you and save the expense of buying them again at the entrance.

The cave is about ten kilometers away from the entrance and you will need to drive through a thick and dense forest, making your adventure thoroughly exciting from start.

The Narrow passage leading to the stairs to the cave and the stalactites and stalagmites in the cave give the place an eerie and creepy feel. The utter darkness inside also makes the trip more enjoyable. Remember your lamps/torches.

To make matters worse, the path is very slippery with sharp rocks jutting out. Much care and patience is needed to explore the caves. Blind fishes and blind frogs were jumping about the caves making it more fun and scary. I, for one, had a whale of a time. The variety of rock formations, the stunning Shivling, the drive through the Jungle, all made my day a very zealous one. Now for some rest and relaxation as I share the pictures with you for the day. Want to share my experience? Come visit the Kutumsar Caves.

At The Khajuraho Of Chhattisgarh – Bhoramdeo Temple

It is easy to decipher that Bhoramdeo refers to the Hindu Lord Shiva’s name. The Bhoramdeo Temple is not just a single temple, but a complex of temples all pledged to Lord Shiva. For the first time I have come to see a temple with architectural features that have erotic sculptures apart from the Khajuraho or Konark Sun Temples.

My journey into the temple complex was welcomed by the sculpted figure of Nandi, the sacred vahan of Lord Shiva under a colorful arch. The alamade is laid out like an esplanade with huge trees on either sides. A man made lake holds the sight of all visitors with the backdrop of the Maikal Mountains.

The Bhoramdeo Temple is built of stone. The entire complex is set at the foot of the scenic thickly forested Maikal Range Hills. Dating to 1100 AD and much older than the Khajuraho Temple Groups, the brick temples were built during the rule of Pandavas.

The sensuous sculptures on the exterior walls took me by much surprise. They in fact represent the Kama Sutra, reflecting the then prevailing cultural, agricultural, religious and social ethos of the region. It is said that these fifty-four erotic postures also reflect on the tantric culture practiced by the Nagawanshi Kings.

Within the complex the other temples one will come across are the Istaliq temple, Chekri Mahal, Madwa Mahal and an Open Air Museum. I was told that the best time to visit the Bhoramdeo Temple was during the Bhoramdeo Mahotsav.

Built by King Ramachandra of Nagar Dynasty in the name of the princess Ambika Devi of Haiya Devi Dynasty whom he married, the Bhoramdeo Temple is a special attraction for lovers of both Archaeology and it’s intriguing history.

The main attraction in the Bhoramdeo Temple Complex is the Shiva Linga Shrine carved to perfection and artistic appeal, beckoning the visitors to utter devotion and focus. So beautiful is the Temple that Sir Cunningham is said to have termed the Temple as ‘one of the most beautifully decorated temple seen by him.’

Don’t believe us? Come here and experience the magic take you captive too.

To The Myth Filled Temple Of Maa Danteshwari, Chhattisgarh

There lay several unexplained phenomena in this universe. Some say that Science and religion do not have any difference, while some strongly believe that Religion is by far more complex and superior to Science and can answer those questions, which Science fails to. I do believe there is some power, which is beyond our levels of understanding. After surging through the wild and a fun filled day, I was on my way to experiencing something beyond my wildest dreams.

It is said that in the folklores of Lord Shiva and his consort Shakti, Shakti immolated herself in the fire pit of a yagna kund, in the rage of an insult committed by her father Daksha towards her Lord Shiva during a yaga. The death of his wife caused Shiva to grieve wherein he razed the yaga and with the body of Shakti he danced the ‘Shiv Taandav’. In doing so he cut off Shakti’s body and dispersed parts of her body in fifty-two different places on Earth. These have been consecrated as the Shakti Pithas. Among these, the place where Shakti’s tooth fell has been venerated as a shrine and named Maa Danteshwari.

Built in the 14th Century by the Chalukya Kings in the South Indian Style of architecture, the temple has a large value to its history. Maa Danteshwari’s idol is chiseled from black stone while the entire temple is parted into four chambers, the Garba Griha, Maha Mandap, the Sabha Mandap and the Mukhya Mandap. The temple is surrounded by ginormous walls and is in fact inside a very spacious courtyard.

The six hundred year old temple represents the socio-religio- cultural history of that region. This temple stands to witness centuries of history and tradition still ignorant to man. Maa Danteshwari is worshipped with great pomp and devotion and is treated with high respect and faith by the locals.

With this blessed visit, my day feels purer and so do I. Not only do I have some stunning images to share with you but also an entire history you would have never heard of before.

With The Life And Colors Of Nature – Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary, Chhattisgarh

Cities and Towns feel incomplete without a part of nature still intact within its developments. Being a hardcore nature addict, I can only tell you the wonders of nature that man has just learnt to appreciate more of late. There are several varieties of species of animals and plants that are becoming close to being extinct with the development of lands and constant deforestation. Moreover global warming has also been a large cause for the lifestyles and lifespan of animals to alter along with their human interaction.

I was so pleased and touched to see the care and affection that the people of Chhattisgarh have taken into building this sanctuary for the wildlife of the city. It has managed to preserve several endangered species such as the leopards, Wild Bisons, Bengal Tigers and more. As a matter of fact, the Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary has been declared as a Tiger Reserve in India.

Though not a very popular tourist destination, the dense foliage of the forest still does attract the adventurous and nature loving people to witness the beauty of nature and be a part of it. The hilly topography of the terrain also gives a challenging trek to those who love to scale heights and lengths.

A pristine wildlife stowed away in the lush greens of the hills, gave me an opportunity to a breath taking view of the entire forest from one of the five watch-towers, Tangli Pathar.

Away from the maddening crowd and in the presence of the world’s best fashion designer: Nature, what more could I want to be inspired. It seems dubious to not want to delve into the lap of nature for even a second of its authentic love.

The drive to the Wildlife Sanctuary from the hotel itself was an adventurous journey. Colorful roads, buzzing with life and thriving with new life, I was loaded with more positive energy than ever. I couldn’t care less for technology with my head between the hedges of pure beauty and innocence.

Take the drive to Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary and marvel the charm of mother-nature that we rarely get to witness in our modernized, tech savvy lifestyle.

Hotel Royal Castle Raipur : Staying in cozy hotels is the best part of my travel. Being a fashion geek, I spend most of the time in front of the mirror. Definitely, I needed a spacious room that had a huge dressing table with beautiful engraved full-sized mirror. Enjoyed myself getting dressed-up in front of that stunning mirror provided in Hotel Royal Castle Raipur.

Dancing to the music of the Chitrakote Waterfalls of Chhattisgarh

Several movie songs come to my mind as I picture a waterfall. There is a beauty of nature hidden in the music of waterfalls. It begins with the water moving calmly from its origin, and then the momentum picks up as it nears the fall. When it comes to the fall, everything slows down. You can visualize each and every droplet of the water reaching out to the skies as if they were trying to fly and then plummet to the bottom of its journey. To feel this music, you need to be at the waterfalls.

And lucky me, here I am; at the Chitrakote Waterfalls of Chhattisgarh. Known as India’s finest waterfalls, even when assimilated with the best waterfalls in the whole world. The Chitrakote waterfall is the largest in India, abruptly collapsing to a 100 foot deep cavern.

The specialty of this waterfall is that it is horseshoe shaped. You might get to notice this during the monsoon season between July and October and sometimes even in the spell after monsoon. To take stunning photographs, time yourself in the afternoons when the sun reflects off the water and gives the water a diamond like effect.

Boating and Swimming is not allowed up-stream, as it is very dangerous. However, I noticed that people are allowed to use paddle-boats in the pool of water below the falls. Locals and adventure sports can be seen taking a plunge in the pool below the falls. The waterfall creates a lovely rainbow at times, which makes the scene more alluring.

To the left bank of the Chitrakote Falls of Chhattisgarh, there are several naturally formed grottos where lies a small Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. These caves are known after Lord Shiva’s consort as “Parvati Caves”. The Shrine has a very mystical air about it with the beauty of the waterfall beside it. The locals take it very seriously and are devoted to the grottos as well as the shrine.

I must admit the beauty that lay hidden within these tiny cities and towns of India mesmerize me. I have a bundle of pictures to share with you. Who knows, I might have just convinced you to make a trip here yourself.

After all the rides I was pretty famished and my senses took me straight to the food court. Ah! The bliss I found when I delved into those mouth-watering flavor packed delicacies. The multi cuisine provided by the park included Indian, Chinese and Continental. With such an array of clean hot healthy food, who would want to pack food for their picnics?

They even provide banquet halls and arrange lawn parties for various functions and birthday parties. With a nominal tariff and an enticing package tariff, everyone would jump at the opportunity.

Not only do they have rides for whole families, but also accommodation for people who wish to stay overnight and enjoy their weekends or holidays. The suites are A/C fitted and facilitated with all basic amenities. Their service is of top quality and very commendable.

The rates are very reasonable and held to my budget plans too. Rates were the same for adults as well as children, although they vary on weekdays, weekends, separate family rates and even for loners like myself. On a weekday the MM Fun City is open from 10 am to 8 pm and on weekends they remain open upto 10:30 pm.

With strict rules that are followed very vigilantly, the entire park is kept clean and the quality of the water is also very pure. Guests are also imposed a fair compensation fee in the event that they cause any damage or cause any problems.

In short, my day at the MM Fun City was exactly what I needed to rejuvenate my senses and speed up my blood for the remaining of the trip.
