The visit to Anand Bhavan was the last place on my list of “to-do” things. I reached the venue around 2PM and the off-white building with the greyish-blue border impressed me a lot. This was the ancestral home of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and the pride that I felt when I stepped into the building is incomparable.
As per history, Anand Bhavan was an important place during the struggle for India’s independence. It was at this place that several meetings, discussions and decisions for the achievement of freedom took place. This two-storied building became the property of the
Indian Government in the year of 1970 and later converted into a museum.
I entered the building and there I saw that it displayed the entire set of events that led to the struggle for the freedom of our country and the way in which we achieved our freedom. The details of the participants for the freedom and the pictures are very educative. This would be the best place for history buffs to visit and learn a few truths about our leaders and the fight for freedom.

I went into another room, which belonged to Pandit Nehru. It was his bedroom and the study. The displays of the books and Nehru’s things are worth seeing. Apart from this, there were several other rooms, which belonged to various members of the Nehru family. The memorabilia of Motilal Nehru and Indira Gandhi were on display too. Indira Gandhi’s things were in one room, whereas the drawing room has the display of things of both Pandit Nehru and his father.
Mahatma Gandhi has a room dedicated to him in Anand Bhavan. As per the historic facts, Gandhiji stayed in Anand Bhavan and in this particular room whenever he visited Allahabad. The section that interested me the most was the display of books with various titles. There were books on different subjects and facts. The visitors could browse through the books too.
It took me about two hours to finish the inside section and once done, I walked into the outhouse. This place was amazing! Several pictures depicted the life of Jawaharlal Nehru. By the time I finished the gallery inspection, it was 5PM and time for the museum to close. I headed back to the hotel to relax and have a pampered dinner!
